TAX RELIEF?  Is it possible?  We've voted on several tax relief initiatives in the last ten years, none of which have slowed property tax growth.  Why not?  Taxes are outpacing income growth by 40%.  That is absolutely unacceptable!

The Assessor can help!  He can be an advocate for the Taxpayer.  I've spent 32 years in the building and real estate industry.  My experience in Architecture and Engineering, computer hardware and software systems for the building industry, and finance, and brokerage of all types of real estate give me the professional background necessary to make critical changes to this highly technical office.  My work in, land use, zoning, and sensitive areas can help give your property assessment some relief from government restrictions.  I understand how property should be valued.  The current Assessor uses three years of sales comparables to get your assessed value, rather than five years allowed by state law.  I'll use up to five years to help slow the increases.

EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE!  The Assessor's job is purely technical, and administrative, rather than policy making.  The Assessor should be knowledgeable.  We estimate 25% of the 600,000 properties are assessed with "guess work," and have incorrect data.  Therefore, most of us (including renters) are paying more than our fair share.  The solution is to work with taxpayers, rather than against them.  I will lead the way with new technology (such as a Web Site for appeals and public data) and a new volunteer citizen oversight committee.

We don't need higher taxes and new taxes.  The current Assessor has lobbied the State Legislature for a tax called the intangibles tax, which could be levied against every business name.  They believe your business name has great value and should be taxed.  I vehemently disagree!  TAX RELIEF?  Yes!  Vote, CHIC HENDRICKS.

NOBLE

Democrat

As King County Assessor, I have an outstanding record for fairness, dramatically reducing property tax appeals to the lowest level in over twenty years.  The Assessor's job is to distribute property taxes set by districts and voters in a fair and equitable manner.  As you know, the Assessor cannot directly lower property taxes.

Thirty-one ballot measures supporting education were passed last year, increasing voted taxes by over 20%.  My report card for distributing such levies is improved fairness and equity, reducing revaluation appeals from eighteen thousand when I took office to forty-two hundred today, less than one percent of appraisals.  My record is:

FAIR - Preserved fairness at the State Supreme Court, saving homeowners $45 million in tax increases from an illegal tax shift; EQUITABLE - Nearly doubling tax relief to our senior citizens on fixed incomes through legislation; A RESPONSIVE, RESPONSIBLE TAXPAYER ADVOCATE - Started legislation to reduce the state property tax by over $100 million, and to require districts to hold public hearings on any property tax increase.

I have kept my promise to improve the Assessor's office to a fair, professional and responsive organization.  I am a native of King County and a graduate of the University of Washington.  I am proud to have served our country as a Naval Officer, a Vietnam Veteran and Desert Storm support.  Recently, I retired as a Captain, U.S. Naval Reserve.

I am proud to have met the challenges of reforming the Assessor's office, and hope to have the privilege to continue serving as your King County Assessor.   THANK YOU, Scott Noble.

Dave

CALLON

Republican

Property taxes are too high!  High taxes hurt everyone - homeowners, renters and businesses.  To get lower taxes, we must elect leaders willing to work for us.

    DAVE CALLON puts taxpayers first!

DAVE CALLON is a proven tax cutter.  Currently an elected Fire Commissioner, he has spearheaded effective efforts to control taxes and spending, actually reducing charge rates by 13% while maintaining high fire protection ratings.  He kept his promise.

DAVE CALLON has proven, real world experience.  A successful Seattle businessman, he has bottom-line management skills and first-hand experience with both residential and commercial property.

    DAVE CALLON pledges to:

Work for lower property taxes wherever possible

By keeping assessments as low as the law allows, by efficient management, and by defending your pocketbook when higher property taxes are proposed.

Work to ensure fair and uniform assessments

    Current inequities must be corrected.

    Assist Senior Citizens

Longtime residents must not be taxed out of their homes.

Provide taxpayers "Truth in Taxes" reports

Taxpayers need better information on how much their taxes are and how those taxes are spent.

Provide relief when government regulations devalue property

Property owners who find their property devalued by government regulations need their assessments reduced to reflect that loss in value.

DAVE CALLON will start saving us money immediately.  He will return to revaluing property every two years instead of the current yearly increase in assessments.

DAVE CALLON is the highest rated Republican by Seattle-King County Association of Realtors.  Community activities:  Civil Air Patrol, Boys and Girls Club Coach, past Volunteer Fireman.  Endorsed by County Councilman Rob McKenna.

Under our County Charter, we elect the Assessor to be more than a bureaucratic technician.  It's time for an Assessor who serves the TAXPAYERS, not the tax SPENDERS.

    Vote for DAVE CALLON.
