David

BAKER

I have watched as our government has become too intrusive and burdensome for the families and businesses in our city.  I am running to stop a runaway government from spending ever-increasing amounts of our money.

As a successful business owner for the past 21 years, I can offer responsible financial experience.  Fiscally conservative, I would review all city projects for potential savings.

We need to clear up the traffic congestion in our city  Our roads need to be improved.  Kenmore needs to improve traffic flow at major points in the city.  Our citizens should not have to face unnecessary traffic delays.  Our roads should not be filled with potholes and poor paving.

I believe that to preserve our small town community, protect our neighborhoods, control commuter traffic, help small business we need new creative solutions to old problems and we must include all of our citizens in those discussions.

Working together, we can provide for Kenmore's economic vitality, develop fiscally responsible solutions to problems, meet the growing need of a diverse community, and ensure a bright future for ourselves and our children.

I want Kenmore to become the most livable community possible.  I will work to relieve traffic congestion, provide safe pedestrian and bicycle access, create an accessible attractive city center, and improve parks and recreation to take advantage of Kenmore's remarkable natural setting.  We must manage growth to provide affordable housing while maintaining the valued character of existing neighborhoods.

As Kenmore develops its Comprehensive Plan, I will work to keep the Plan affordable, ensure it responds to diverse community needs and citizen input.  I believe citizens should determine their city's future and its cost.  That happens when people participate.

A University of Washington graduate and 19 year resident with my family, I worked for incorporation, organized candidate recruitment and public forums for Kenmore.  My skills include policy development, project and budget management, and program evaluation while employed at the U.W. and Children's Hospital.

PHELPS

If elected, I will represent you with good fiscal management and keep you informed about council matters.  I have attended all but three Kenmore Council meetings as an interested citizen.

My wife, Brenda, daughter Mary, and I have lived in Kenmore since 1986.  Until retirement in 1992, I was V/P, Treasurer and Comptroller of my own business, and am currently a part-time staff accountant for a Kenmore CPA Firm.

My community activities include:  Board Member of Moorlands PTA, National Tire Dealers Association, Treasurer East King County Soccer Referees, and I serve as a volunteer Kenmore reporter for the Northlake News doing the Police Beat Report and reporting Kenmore news.

My priorities are supporting local law enforcement, maintaining city streets and controlling Kenmore's Development.  Kenmore needs more play fields for kids and adults to play ball, run, work off excess energy and stay in shape.

    Vote for John Phelps.

GIMURTU

I have been a resident of Kenmore over the past 30 years, and am extremely proud of serving as President of the Kenmore Community Council, 1969-1971.  During this time the Council, working with the King County Council, made possible Tracy Owen Park.

I retired from the Northshore School District after teaching 30 years.  Currently substitute teaching in the Northshore and Shoreline Districts.

I was recently elected Commissioner of the Northshore Fire Department.  We have an EXCELLENT Fire Department, providing EMS, Fire Suppression, and Fire Prevention Services.  I am gaining EXPERIENCE in building consensus, setting goals and objectives, and working with other governmental agencies.

As COUNCILMAN, I will provide leadership and direction for our city.  I am committed to overseeing the development of a BUDGET and FISCAL PLAN that maximizes city resources, minimizes taxpayer burden, and maintains or improves the quality of life.

Thank you in advance for your support.
