CITY OF KENT COUNCIL POS. NO. 03
:

Donna

YOUNG

You and I are very fortunate.  We live in a beautiful city with a sense of community that is difficult to find elsewhere.  We are blessed with excellent Police and Fire protection, as well as a prosperous business base.

But, we must never assume that it will always be this good.  We must be careful that our prosperity does not bring excessive growth and spoil the community that we have built together.

As a small business person and homeowner, I've seen some changes that have occurred.  And I worry that we may be drifting from the vision that made Kent the great little city that it is.

Working together, we can continue to enjoy the quality of life that our hard work has brought.  Working together, we can build upon this foundation.  Working together, we can enter the 21st century as the very best place to raise our families.  This is my commitment to you.

Keith

BAKER

Keith Baker stands for the quality of our neighborhoods.  Services such as fire, police, utilities, and commuter shopping vans will remain effective.  His other priorities include senior and youth activities, parks and athletic fields, affordable housing, maintaining city uniqueness and livability, retaining business zones for small businesses, commuter traffic flow, bicycle paths and lanes, public art, local advance internet access, and neighborhood traffic calming.  Fiscally conservative, Baker comes from west hill Kent and has lived here since 1983.

You should seriously consider the candidacy of Keith Baker for City Council when you vote this year.  You are among the few who take the time and effort to vote in Municipal elections, which indicates your concern about local government.  Your vote should be for involvement, effectiveness, and character.  You should remember Keith Baker.

YINGLING

"All of us -- Working together."  This statement best characterizes Rico's work for the past five years, including two years as a Kent City Councilman, bringing many Kent organizations together to help make Kent a better place to live, work, and play.  Rico has worked with schools, city government, businesses, charitable associations, and multicultural groups to solve problems and create opportunities for all community stakeholders.  Rico believes that we can have better and more affordable government that achieves more for our neighborhoods, families, and businesses by opening the dialogue, sitting down at a common table, and creating win-win solutions.  He is not afraid to ask tough questions and facilitate the right solution.

Rico's experience includes the Presidency of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, school LIT committees, and many community improvement committees including work on the Mayor's Multicultural Task Force.  He is currently the chair of the Chamber's High Performance Community Project and is President of the Washington State Quality Award.
