AMELING

As a park commissioner I try to keep two thoughts in mind:  Is this what the people really want? and Is this financially responsible?

Park programs are always changing but the land is permanent.  Commissioners must seek the balance between current recreational needs and the long-term use of the land.

The commissioners should be good stewards to the parklands.  Park development should complement the surrounding areas to showcase the natural beauty of Vashon.  Development should be balanced; some parks should be left in their natural states and others developed for recreational activities.

Park programs come and go.  Programs are based on what the public wants now.  Commissioners should be attentive to current wants and provide good local programs.

I have been a parks commissioner for the past 14 years.  I love Vashon and its people.  I have thoroughly enjoyed being a commissioner and would like to continue.

MEEKER

I believe the Park District provides the most comprehensive form of local governance representing islanders' interests in issues of critical habitat, open space, recreation and community programs.  I am committed to support and expand the District's strong pioneering efforts.  I will work collaboratively with fellow commissioners to acquire and protect critical habitat and open space, increase facilities for community programs, and strengthen cooperative relationships among public and private agencies.

My 35 years professional experience developing collaborative relationships among public and private agencies to develop, fund and manage community based programs will be a useful asset for this position.

My husband and I have lived on Vashon Island for 15 years.  We were drawn to Vashon because of its outstanding natural beauty and the strong community involvement of islanders.  I see the constructive interaction of individual, community group, agency, with the Park District as community involvement at its best.
