John HALL
Now retired from Microsoft, I have the time and energy to commit to our school district.  If elected, I will serve with the same intensity Microsoft demands of its people.  Yet I refuse to 'run'.  No contributions, leaflets, yard signs, or mailers for me.     Everyone running for this office is 'for' good education.  Intentions are fine, but as a taxpayer I'd like better results.  Test results indicate our children are not getting the education the taxpayers are paying for.  When one of our schools turns in substandard performance, we should find and emulate more successful programs.  In the meantime, the schools should excel in teaching academics before looking for other things to do.     I invite the other candidates to trade ideas and positions on my web site or theirs.  Negative whisper campaigns with soft money are unseemly.     If war is too important to be left to the generals (Abe Lincoln), then education is too important to leave to the NEA.  On a lighter note, I'd like to serve as a counter-example to Mark Twain's description of School Board members (see web page). Jackie PENDERGRASS
In the upcoming year, Lake Washington Schools will continue to face many exciting challenges.  A new superintendent will be selected after the new year.  Programs and curriculum are being developed and implemented to meet student needs.  Our community continues to ask for program and fiscal accountability.  A large modernization program is underway.  I have worked over the past four years for accountability, community involvement and improved communication.  Continuity will be critical during the transition to new leadership.  I feel qualified and ready to assist our schools and district during this challenging time.      My husband and I have lived in the Juanita area for 23 years with our two sons, both Lake Washington graduates.  For over 17 years, I have worked on children's issues both in the school district and in other areas. Sandy ELLIOT
As parents in LWSD Ian and I are fully engaged in public education.  I believe the current board of directors has lost its focus to provide academic excellence.  I will guarantee greater proportion of taxes will reach classrooms and will closely monitor all expenses.  Most importantly, I will stress academics that ensure future success of children.     For nine years I was active in our daughters' classrooms; room mom, art docent, and with teachers organized Family Math Nights.  As a PTA member, I chaired fundraising committees, enrichment committees, and founded the Communication Committee with parents.  Appointed by Dr. Terry Bergeson to the Washington State Commission on Student Learning Fairness Committee, I reviewed all tests for the new state assessments.  I also served as advisor to the Legislative Interim Committee on School To Work.     I am committed to education excellence for LWSD schools, and would greatly appreciate your vote.
