Election officials prepare for machine recount

King County Elections is putting procedures in place to begin a machine recount of the Governor's race on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 8 a.m. The recount will take place at the Mail Ballot Operations facility located at 3901 First Ave. South, in Seattle.

In a machine recount, some 130 trained employees will work for four days feeding absentee and poll ballots through tabulation machines.

Since King County has the greatest number of ballots to recount, Dean Logan, director of King County Records, Elections and Licensing Services, expects a machine recount of 898,238 ballots to take about four days. Election officials expect to finish the machine recount on Wednesday, Nov.24.

The cost of a recount in King County has not been determined.

King County's recount process is open to observation by political parties, candidates, and other observers.
