Unofficial manual recount results

King County Elections today posted unofficial results of its manual recount of the 2004 governor's race. These results will not be certified until elections officials verify signatures and count up to 735 previously uncounted ballots which were set aside pending a ruling by the Washington State Supreme Court.

King County added 59 ballots to its count, which represents a .006 percent change in the County's election results. This number will likely change tomorrow, after staff verify and process a group of previously uncounted ballots.

"I want to commend King County Election staff and the 240 politically appointed workers who worked side-by-side for 15 days to count a record 898,633 ballots," said Dean Logan, director of Records, Elections and Licensing Services. "These types of sacrifices help ensure the honesty and integrity of this country's election process."

With nearly 900,000 ballots cast, King County issued and counted more ballots than almost any other jurisdiction in the country, second only to Los Angeles County, California.

King County will post results of the manual recount by 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec.23.
