"This tool is the best way for people to make sure their registration has not been made inactive due to a recent address change," said Sherril Huff Menees, Assistant Director of Records, Elections and Licensing for King County. "Several thousand absentee ballots are returned as undeliverable after ballots are mailed because voters do not keep their address current. It's not too late to update your mailing address or request an absentee ballot before the November 7 General Election." Once put on inactive status, voters are mailed a cancellation confirmation card to provide them an opportunity to update their information and prevent anyone from mistakenly remaining on inactive status. Any inactive voter simply needs to show up at the polls and vote to become active OR contact King County Elections at 206-296-VOTE (8683) weekdays between 8:30 and 4:30 p.m. Once a voter record is inactivated, the voter must reapply for permanent absentee status. With over 73 possible combinations of contests and ballot measures appearing on ballots this election, it can be a challenge for voters to determine what will appear on their ballot. With a few clicks of mouse from the convenience of their home computer, King County Elections offers a solution: the online voter guide. King County's online custom voter guide simplifies all of this information. By simply entering their name and birth date or address, a voter can confirm their registration information and status, get a list of all contests and measures that will appear on their ballot, and get the address and directions to their polling place. Hyperlinks to voters' pamphlet candidate and ballot measure statements are also available. "Voters rely on many sources for election and candidate information. Our voter's guide feature helps to eliminate confusion, keep voter information current, and reduce the number of provisional ballots cast," said Huff Menees. "This is one more example of how King County Elections is responding to voter needs."
