King County Elections' offices move to Renton

King County, Washington - The security of ballots and vote counting will improve next week when King County Elections closes its offices in the King County Administration Building and at Boeing Field to move to a larger, consolidated facility in Renton. The move will begin this weekend and continue through December. Voters should expect to experience no disruption in service during the transition to the new facility.

The 94,000 square foot facility is a redesigned, two-story building located in the City of Renton. The secured facility is designed to accommodate present and future requirements including vote-by-mail and will also function as a regional voting center when King County transitions to all mail voting in August 2008.

The consolidation of all election functions under one roof has been a top recommendation of four external reviews of King County Elections since 2003. In March 2007 the Metropolitan King County Council passed legislation to lease and renovate the Renton location.

An official open house will be scheduled after the move is completed and when construction is finalized after January 2008.

New Address and Transition Schedule:

The mailing address of the new building will be 919 S.W. Grady Way, Renton, WA, 98057- 2906. The building will have the same operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The location is accessible to people with disabilities and is conveniently located on Metro Bus Route 140.

Staff phone numbers will not change.

Here is the schedule for King County Elections' move to Renton:

  • Dec. 1-2 – Voter services, including registration, the Office of the Director, and King County Election's administration.
  • Dec. 14 – Mail ballot processing and geographical and information system staff.

Addresses and phone numbers for all King County Elections' public hotlines may be found at http://www.metrokc.gov/elections/contactus.asp. For additional assistance in reaching King County Elections services and staff, call 206-296-VOTE.
