Custom Voter Guide & Polling Place Lookup

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do you need my birthday?

There are two ways for the system to locate your record: name and date of birth, or name and address. If a match cannot be made using the name and address look-up, the name and date of birth look-up may be successful. Your name and date of birth does not change, while addresses do. If a registered voter did not advise King County of a change of address, then they will be registered at a prior address and need to vote at their registered and assigned polling place. If someone has forgotten where their registered address is, they can still find their polling place using their name and date of birth.

If you still can not retrieve your voter guide, please call 206-296-VOTE to verify your birth date on file is correct.

Q: What information is available on the Voter Guide?

You can confirm your registration, find your polling place, and the national, state, county, and city candidates and measures on your ballot for the upcoming election.

Candidate information will be updated three weeks before the election.

Q: I'm a registered voter in King County. Why couldn't I find my polling place?

There may be several reasons you cannot locate your polling place using our online polling look-up:

  • You may not be inputting the name exactly as it appears on your voter registration, for example, you may have registered as Michael even though you only go by Mike.
  • Yours may be one of the small number of records where the date of birth is missing.
  • You may have moved and your voter registration does not reflect your new address.
  • We may have entered your personal information incorrectly in our system (name, date of birth, address).
  • You may be registered in a different County such as Snohomish or Pierce County.

Please call us at 206-296-VOTE (8683) if you cannot locate your polling place information.

Q: What information do you collect from users?

None of the information you input (name, address, date of birth) is recorded. These fields are used strictly to match your information with a subset of voter registration data to find a match and report back to you your polling place as it appears in the official voter registration database.

Q: I’m not a registered voter but want to find my precinct. How do I do this?

The Polling Place Lookup uses a database of registered voters. If you are not a registered voter but want to know what precinct your home is located in, you can go to the GIS/Maps link and locate your precinct on the appropriate legislative or council map (use the zoom tool).

Q: Why doesn't the name lookup allow for shortened names like Tom and Sue instead of Thomas and Susan?

King County has over one million registered voters and a surprising number of voters have the same or very similar names. In order to maintain accuracy, the system was designed to make a single match on a single registered voter. This is to ensure that we direct you only to that polling place for which you are registered to vote.
