PROPOSITION NO. 1
AUTHORIZING INCREASE IN REGULAR PROPERTY TAX LEVY
Shall the 106% limitation on the regular property tax levy of Duvall/King County Fire Protection District No. 45 be lifted to allow additional regular property taxes to be collected in 1999 at a rate of $1.50 per thousand dollars of assessed value?
(The regular levy shall continue to be subject to otherwise applicable statutory rate limits.)
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT:
If approved by a majority of voters, Duvall/King County Fire Protection District No. 45 will be authorized to levy regular property taxes at a rate of $1.50 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation for collection in 1999. The actual levy will be established by the Board of Commissioners. The current levy rate is $1.19 per thousand dollars of assessed valuation. The additional tax revenue will fund fire and emergency services.
STATEMENT FOR
Duvall-King County Fire District 45’s Mission Statement is: "To promote community safety and well-being, we dedicate ourselves to the preservation of life and property by providing quality and cost-effective services to the people of our fire district for fire, medical emergencies and other disasters."
We are asking your approval of a levy lid lift to the statutory limit of $1.50 per $1,000 from $1.19. This reflects a yearly increase of $31 per $100,000 assessed valuation; $62 per $200,000; and $93 per $300,000.
This increase will provide for: • Equipment replacement over the next seven years of emergency radios, defibrillators, and self-contained breathing apparatus. • An additional full-time firefighter to provide a career officer on duty 24-hours a day (which increases the experience and training level of duty crews and allows compliance with federal and state regulations).
It is anticipated growth in Duvall will double in the next four to six years. Emergency response calls are increasing at a rate of 6.25% a year, or from 24% to 37% in the same time.
Your approval is necessary if we want to better and keep the services we now have, when needs call for them.
Support your fire department. Vote yes!
