2008 Live Well Challenge Live Well Challenge Prizes


The best reward for participating in the Live Well Challenge is being healthy. But for those who like a little extra incentive, teams can win a variety of prizes throughout the Challenge. In an effort to minimize costs and to promote the diversity of our programs and services, many of this year’s prizes are provided by various King  County Departments. The following are some of the prize categories for the 2008 Live Well Challenge:

Highest Team Point Total (average among team members):

Prizes will placed in a prize pool. Members of the top three point earning teams will receive their choice of one prize from a prize pool. Prize selection will begin with the First Place team. The Second Place team will select from the remaining prizes, followed by the Third Place team. Prizes in the prize pool include:

      • Chinook Books - up to 15 winners will receive a Chinook Book – a coupon book that helps you live well, have fun, and save money while supporting local sustainable businesses!

      • Commuter Bonus Plus Voucher - up to 10 winners will receive a Commuter Bonus Plus voucher worth $25. Vouchers are redeemable at AAA, Brown Bear Car Wash, Zipcar, REI, Union 76 and the YMCA. What a great way to purchase items or services that will help you to keep moving - stay active like running shoes, bicycling equipment, or exercise classes!

      • GroCo Compost Delivery - up to 2 winners will receive up to 2 yards of GroCo compost delivered to their homes. Deliveries must be within GroCo’s normal delivery area (within King County, not including Bainbridge or other islands) and winners must accept delivery by 09/22/2008. (Prize donated by the DNRP, Waste Water Treatment Division)

      • King County Logo Wear - up to 2 winners will receive one King County logo wear item. (Total cost per winner must be less than $40.)

      • Native Plants - up to 5 winners will receive up to four plants from the native plant nursery. Plants will be sword fern, snowberry, or red-osier dogwood. (Prize donated by the DNRP, Water and Land Resources Division.)

      • Sonicare toothbrushes – up to 10 winners will receive a Phillips e9650 elite sonic toothbrush. The system includes 2 Sonicare handles and 3 brush head and is sure to keep you smiling longer after the Challenge is complete! (Prize donated by Washington Dental Service.)

      • Yurt Rental - up to 2 winners will receive a one night yurt rental at Tolt MacDonald Park

      • Zipcar - up to 10 winners will receive $75 a credit to their Zipcar account that can be applied to the one time application fee or driving fees. King County employees already receive other discounts from Zipcar so sign up today! (Prize donated by Zipcar with assistance from the DOT, Employee Transportation Program.)

The First Place team will also receive a free lunch with King County Executive Ron Sims on September 8, 2008!

Other Prize Categories:

      • Best Team Name: The team who comes up with the Best Team Name, as determined by the Live Well Challenge Steering Committee, will receive a vegetable peeler for each member and an on-site blood pressure screening for your team from Metrofit! Remember that you can earn points for Knowing your Numbers. (Prizes donated by the Washington State Potato Commission and the DOT Metro Transit.)

      • Best Team Photo: The team with the Best Team Photo, as determined by the Live Well Challenge Steering Committee, will receive a vegetable peeler for each member and an on-site blood pressure screening for your team from Metrofit! Remember that you can earn points for Knowing your Numbers. The deadline for team photo submission is Friday, August 1. Submit your photos to livewellchallenge@metrokc.gov. (Prizes donated by the Washington State Potato Commission and the DOT Metro Transit.)

      • Team Captain Gift: Every dedicated and inspiring Team Captain will receive a gift bag containing a water bottle, an exercise stretch band, a shopping list notepad, and a package of vegetable seeds. Team Captain gifts will be sent out after July 11. (Prizes donated by Group Health Community Foundation, Puget Sound Fresh and the Washington State Dairy Council.)

      • Participation Gift: Every registered participant will receive a pedestrian/bicyclist flashing safety light and a travel sized bottle of sunscreen or a travel sized bottle of hand sanitizer. Participant gifts will be sent out after July 11. (Prize donated by Group Health Community Foundation.)

      • Weekly Top Team Point Total: The top team each week will receive a basket stuffed with fresh produce hand-delivered to their worksite. Each basket will contain delicious, in-season fresh fruits and snacks. A great way to have a quick, healthy snack at work.

      • Most Improved Team: The team with the largest change in point totals measured by averaging points during weeks 1-3, compared to weeks 4-6. Each team member will receive a free stainless steel travel mug perfect for keeping your favorite beverage hot or cold while at work or during your commute. (Prize donated by the DOT, Employee Transportation Program.)

      • Most Inspirational Team Captain Story: Submit a team story or testimonial 250 words or less on what makes your team captain the best and an inspiration to others. The winning Team Captain, as determined by the Live Well Challenge Steering Committee, will win a copy of the New York Times best seller “YOU: The Owner's Manual”, a waterproof picnic blanket and a book of bus tickets. Take a mini-vacation on Metro with your family or friends to a local park, have a picnic or read a book. What could be a better way to spend a sunny summer weekend!  Deadline for submission is August 24th, 2008 (the end of week 6). Submit your testimonial to livewellchallenge@kingcounty.gov. (Prize donated by the DOT Metro Transit.)
