The Employee Assistance Program

Sometimes problems get in the way of work

Because employees are King County’s most valuable resource, the county provides an important program to help you resolve workplace issues and concerns -- the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

The EAP is a program provided by the county as a FREE service to all county employees, regardless of benefit eligibility or career status. We’ll talk with you about the problem and help you find a solution.

All information discussed with an EAP counselor is confidential and can be disclosed only with your permission or as required by law or county policy. Please follow this link to the Confidentiality form for more details.

Services for ALL employees

Through consultation and one-on-one counseling, the EAP can help you with:

  • stress due to work issues
  • problems with co-workers or supervisors
  • anger management
  • work performance or job dissatisfaction
  • unwelcome conduct by others
  • personal problems that affect work
  • domestic violence
  • alcohol or drug use
  • discussing sensitive issues with your supervisor
  • support following an unsatisfactory performance appraisal
  • other work-related issues

Services for managers

In addition to the services listed above, the EAP offers professional guidance to managers and supervisors on:

  • improving employee performance
  • dealing with employee behavior
  • resolving problems between employees
  • debriefing after traumatic events
  • recognizing substance abuse at work
  • workgroup training and facilitation
  • other issues that affect your employees’ well-being or their ability to do their work
  • encouraging employees to use the EAP
