Background


Since 1995, King County has conducted an election for the purpose of electing a King County Personnel Board member. This election occurs every five years, and the last election was held in June, 2001.

The Personnel Board is established by Section 540 of the King County Charter and consists of five members, four whom are appointed, and one elected by King County career service employees, approximately 11,000 people.

What is the Personnel Board?


The Personnel Board conducts hearings on employees’ appeals on certain personnel actions as provided for in the charter.

Who is eligible to run?


Any resident of Washington State who is not employed by King County may apply for this position. King County employees are not eligible to run for or serve in this position. Candidates must file their candidacy with King County Elections during a one week filing period, May 8 through 12, 2006. There is a $5 filing fee. King County Elections is located in the King County Administration Building at 500 Fourth Ave, Room 553 in Seattle.

Who is eligible to vote?

Only career-service King County employees may vote on this position. All eligible employees will receive their official ballot at their mailing address the week of May 22, 2006. Eligible ballots must be returned to King County Elections, postmarked by midnight on June 6, 2006.
