Commuting by carpool

art: car

Sharing a ride can be cheaper and faster than driving alone, and it’s easy!

A carpool is a group of two or more people who commute to work or other destinations together in a private vehicle. Carpool members work out their own agreements on who drives and how often, schedules, and payments for gas and maintenance. King County Metro’s Rideshare Operations provides various services to help you start and support your commuter pool (see Metro Carpooling Made Easy).

Finding carpool partners

RideshareOnline.com is a free online self-serve ridematching service that—in a matter of minutes, day or night—helps you find others who want to carpool and have a similar commute.

Special incentive program for King County employees who carpool to work

If you work outside downtown Seattle, you can earn a $20 Commuter Bonus Plus Voucher for any month in which you carpool, bike, or walk to work at least 51% of your workdays and commute miles. The vouchers can be used at AAA/Washington, Brown Bear Car Wash, Union 76 gas stations, REI, the YMCA, or Flexcar. Contact Elaine Ducken at elaine.ducken@metrokc.gov or 206-684-1663 or see the Carpool, Bike, and Walk Incentives page for more information.
