Welcome to the Budget Advisory Task Force Web site. The links from these pages will provide you with information on the Task Force members, meetings and objectives along with information about King County's budget.
King County is facing a severe fiscal challenge over the next several years. Executive Sims has asked the Task Force to identify actions that the County can take to address this challenge.
The Budget Advisory Task Force is a thirteen-member group comprised of individuals from business, labor and legal backgrounds from around King County. No currently elected or appointed government officials are members of the group. We will review King County's existing budget and then focus on the general fund revenues, programs, policies and business processes and present our recommendations to the Executive in June 2003.
We hope that our efforts will help provide a road map for the future that will help King County to continue to improve county government and its service delivery. Thank you for your interest in this important issue.

Mission: Examine the County's Current Expense (CX) Fund, programs, policies, processes and budgets, and make recommendations regarding policy and operational changes that may provide appropriate additional cost savings, as well as the need, if any, for additional revenues in support of CX programs.
The work of the Task Force will include examination of general government functions and budgets, including but not limited to the courts, sheriff, jail, public health, human services, parks and central government functions. The Task Force will also review the 2003 budget process, and make recommendations about 2004 budget cuts.
The task force will begin meeting in November 2002 and conclude its work by June 2003. It will report to the King County Executive.
Tasks
- Identify Short Term (2004) and Long Term Direction/Priorities for Budget Cuts.
- Identify Short Term and Long Term operational and other changes to address CX shortfall.
- Determine whether there is a structural problem with the County's funding structure, and if so, does that require new funding sources? What type of funding sources?
