King County seeks public comment on draft Rural Economic Strategies Report

A ten-month public process involving rural residents, farmers, foresters, business owners, and many rural stakeholder groups has culminated in a draft Rural Economic Strategies Report that has been issued for public review. The report outlines proposed strategies and action items for advancing the long-term viability of the rural economy in King County.

The ideas, suggestions, and recommendations presented by rural stakeholders at public, and individual and group meetings form the foundation for the strategies. The report proposes no new policies but does propose actions rural residents and stakeholders believe will enhance rural quality of life.

The draft Rural Economic Strategies Report is now available on the Office of Business Relations and Economic Development Web site. Interested persons may send comments on the draft report to Julia Larson via e-mail at julia.larson@metrokc.gov, or regular mail to Julia Larson, Office of Business Relations and Economic Development, BOA-EX-2000, 701 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2000, Seattle, WA 98104. The deadline for comments is Dec. 6, 2005.

The King County Executive will send the final report to the King County Council before the end of this year.
