King County Region Athletic and Cultural Events

Late in 2002, under the leadership of Bob Walsh, the partners came together to promote the region as the site of the North American Special Olympic tryouts. Although they were unsuccessful in their bid for the Special Olympic event, they persuaded the Air Force to move their scheduled 2005 game with the University of Washington to Husky Stadium.

In spring of 2005 a regional public/private partnership, including King County and Seattle formed the Greater Seattle 2010 Committee to optimize the potential economic and cultural benefits for the region resulting from our close proximity to the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver , B.C. King County BRED staff actively participates in committee activities.
