Support to the State of Washington's Bid to Manufacture the Boeing 787

King County has had an ongoing economic relationship with Boeing over many decades.  Boeing is a major contributor to Washington's economy. Boeing has been a primary customer of the King County International Airport and major employer/tax payer since airport construction began in 1928.

Boeing provides 2,000 jobs at King County International Airport, and 7,000 aerospace jobs in King County. Assembly of the 787 will result in 800 to 1,200 jobs in the Central Puget Sound region.

King County was a key player in a partnership of community leaders and organizations committed to persuading elected officials, business leaders, labor leaders, and the public that the unique needs of Washington from county metropolitan areas must be immediately addressed (including the 787 project, transportation improvements, support for research universities, aerospace excellence and workforce training).

On December 15, 2003, Boeing's Board of Directors approved the plan to assemble the 787 "Dreamliner" in Everett.
