Kent Downtown Partnership

The partnership is affiliated with the state and national Main Street Program which was established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1977. The main purpose of the Kent Downtown Partnership (KDP) is to restore and revitalize the "downtown" core of the city.

Key accomplishments by the KDP in 2004 were:

  • Creating a Downtown Kent Art Walk
  • Raising $18,400 to hire a public relations firm to determine Kent 's image and create a business recruitment package
  • Staging a cleanup of the downtown area
  • Holding second Annual Winterfest Celebration
  • Developing conceptual plan of physical connection between Kent Station Project and retail core
  • Lobbying for Kent City Council to vote in favor of hiring the Kent Station developer, Tarragon, to enable them to begin construction on 18.2 acre Borden property.

The 2005 budget adopted by the County Council included a $4,000 grant to allow KDP to build a website to promote a prosperous and customer-friendly community that increases property values, helps reduce vandalism and increases safety.
