Puget Sound Industrial Excellence Center

The Puget Sound Industrial Excellence Center (PSIEC) is a collaborative effort ("Hat and Boots" coalition) including business, industry, education and governments such as King County. The Center is the South Seattle Community College Duwamish Apprentice and Education Center which currently houses 22 apprenticeship programs.

A major goal of the PSIEC is to add services to assist local businesses with a particular focus on construction, transportation, and manufacturing industries in the Duwamish Corridor. The Corridor and waterway stretch roughly from south of downtown Seattle to areas southeast of Tukwila

Members of the PSIEC have been aggressively seeking funding to outreach to the businesses in the Corridor to determine their current and future business, technical and training needs. The PSIEC is focused on the industrial businesses in the Duwamish geographic area, and is seeking funds to serve local manufacturers. One example of a service for manufacturers being established by PSIEC is the Safety Training Center scheduled for ground breaking in July, 2005. This center will be located in the hub of economic activity in Western Washington and address the safety needs of construction, transportation and manufacturing since the primary apprenticeship programs for these trades are located in the Duwamish Corridor.
