BRED's Historic Preservation goal is to identify, preserve and protect significant historic and archaeological properties in order to promote community, economic, and cultural development.
The King County Historic Preservation Program was established in 1978 to ensure that as the county grows and changes the historic resources which best reflect the region's 11,000 years of human history are preserved for future generations. As the program has developed over the last 25 years, its focus has broadened from a traditional program documenting and protecting historic buildings and sites, to an innovative and far-reaching program which includes activities such as identifying and protecting scenic and recreational highway corridors, developing an archaeological and ethnographic site database, and promoting economic development through restoration of historic main streets in the county's rural and suburban areas.
