Workforce Development Council

King County, along with Seattle has fiduciary responsibility for the Workforce Development Council.

The mission of the WDC is to champion a workforce and learning system that allows our region to be a world leader in producing a vibrant economy, and lifelong employment and training opportunities for every resident.

A goal of the WDC and the federal Workforce Investment Act is to provide individuals with training and employment necessary to attain and retain economic self-sufficiency.  The Workforce Investment Act authorizes local and state workforce investment boards to define and develop the criteria for measuring economic self-sufficiency.  The WDC maintains a list of occupations and skill sets that are in demand or decline in the region.
