Habitat destruction or alteration

The Duwamish estuary, where most of the wetlands have been lost to urban development Human impacts to salmon habitat through urbanization have had a devastating effect on salmon. For instance, between 96% and 99% of the wetlands in the Duwamish estuary have been destroyed by development. Estuaries, where freshwater meets saltwater, are essential salmon habitat. Urbanization also affects water quality and alters water flow in streams, harming spawning grounds and eroding streambanks. (6 of 15)
