Youthbuild program receives federal grant to fund spring class
The King County Work Training Program has received a $700,000 grant from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support a spring class for the Youthbuild program, an education assistance and practical work training project targeted to high-risk youth in King County. The grant will enable 40 youth to enroll in the next session of the program beginning in May.

King County Executive Ron Sims today announced $497,820 in matching grants to promote youth sports throughout King County. The 13 awards, ranging from $2,500 to $50,000, will support the construction and renovation of sports fields, playgrounds, a rowing facility and two gymnasiums.

Generous transit passengers donate a 'busful’ of school supplies for at-risk children
Over the past three weeks, transit passengers from across King County donated enough school supplies to fill an entire 30-foot Metro bus. Today, that bus was unstuffed so the supplies could be distributed to children served by the state Department of Social and Health Services – just in time for the new school year.

New dental grant expands services to infants and toddlers in King County
The King County Health Action Plan received a grant for $84,580 from the Washington Dental Service Foundation to start an Access to Baby and Child Dentistry (ABCD) program in King County. ABCD focuses on preventive and restorative dental care for low-income children by educating families on the importance of baby teeth and routine dental care and training dentists to see young children.

Community report card shows progress and setbacks

Members of the King County law enforcement community gathered this afternoon to launch the King County Regional AMBER Alert Program — a first for the Puget Sound region. All 39 police agencies in King County have contributed to developing uniform policies and procedures that will now allow the agencies to partner with the media and public to mount an all-out search for children who have been abducted.
