MLK 2003 Employee Singers
The MLK 2003 Employee Singers perform at King County's 16th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in Seattle. [Enlarged view, 78K]
The MLK 2003 Employee Singers started when the MLK Committee called for King County employees to audition to sing the National Anthem and the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing. Convened by Maria Batayola and rehearsing on their own time, they bring their hearts, musical sensibilities and harmonies to enhance the our Celebration. Following is background information on each of the MLK 2003 Employee singers.
Tracy Dixon. A native of Seattle, Tracy is a juvenile probation counselor with King County Superior Court. She directs the youth choir at her church and enjoys working with young people of all ages. She spends most of her free time enjoying her 2-year-old daughter.
Joslin Henry. loves to sing, sing, sing. She walks at least five miles a week key word is “Try”. She enjoys working in the yard and in her small garden, taking care of her house plants, listening to music and matching wits with her grand children. She truly believes in James Baldwin’s "Truth"……”Everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
Colleen Hinkle is an accomplished actress, singer and writer, having performed for the Northsound Rep and the Women’s Equity Theatre Project in shows such as “Steel Magnolias,” “Twelfth Night” and “Daughters of Change.” She teams public service and the arts whenever possible. She has a solo performance play called “Memory Catcher,” currently in pre-production.
Sandy Rosen. Another one who loves to sing and could have wound up in Vegas, Sandy is the Manager of the HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Program in Public Health. She has been with Metro/King County for 15 years and helped establish King County’s EEO/AA Advisory Committee as a member of Metro’s EEO/AA Advisory Committee. Sandy has two grown daughters. Besides singing, she loves to dance.
Jennifer Smith. Jennifer celebrates three years of marriage this Feb. 12. She writes music and plays the guitar. She came out with her first CD this December called “Sunshine through the Rain.”
Linda Tennell-Chin. Linda grew up listening to her parent who are both beautiful singers. She loves gospel music. As a child, she sat next to her mother in church and learned to sing by competing with her. And now, she sings to her mother who is terminally ill.
Toya Williams loves all types of musical expression. Her deep passion is singing the Gospel of Jesus, and adoring the Lord God with her voice HE is her "Audience Of One!" She loves using her special gift to heal, soothe, encourage, uplift and incite people’s souls, mind and body. She feels humbled when asked to sing a particular special song or where she’s singing next.
