Oct. 6, 2000 Public invited to discussion regarding future of Petrovitsky community King County Executive Ron Sims announced a community meeting will be held on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Lindbergh High School (16426 - 128th SE) to share with neighborhood residents the results of a study done on the future of the Petrovitsky Corridor regarding potential annexation or incorporations. Under the state’s Growth Management Act, unincorporated areas in King County, such as the Petrovitksy Corridor, are encouraged to pursue incorporated status either through annexation or incorporation. Over the last decade, King County has worked with suburban cities to develop a framework of policies to guide areas as they plan for the future. The Petrovitsky Corridor is the latest in a series of efforts to examine all aspects of existing information and help residents make informed decisions regarding their future as a community. “Residents are likely to have four primary questions when thinking about their neighborhood’s future,” said Sims. “Before any decision is made, we all need to examine if it is financially feasible for the area to become a city; would taxes change if we annex to Renton, what do my neighbors think, and, can we just do nothing.” “I encourage residents to attend the meeting and hear a factual presentation of reliable and unbiased information that reviews the governance alternatives as well as the financial impact of each,” Sims continued. To inform residents about what others in the area are thinking, the report includes results of a public survey of local residents to identify current attitudes about service delivery and governance preferences. The report does not contain any recommendations. “Residents should view this report as a starting point from which to begin their community discussion,” Sims said. “This study is intended to provide residents, businesses and other community stakeholders with a solid base of information about both the options that are available as well as the process of making decisions about future governance for the Petrovitsky Corridor Area.” For further information on the study and the meeting, contact Paul Reitenbach, Senior Policy Analyst, King County Office of Regional Policy and Planning, at (206) 205-0701. The Petrovitsky Corridor is an urban unincorporated area located Southeast of Renton approximately bounded on the north by SR 169 and the City of Renton, on the west by Renton and Kent, on the south by SE 208th Street and on the East by the Urban Growth Boundary. It includes, for this study, the neighborhoods of Fairwood, Cascade, Benson Hill, Shady Lake, Spring Glen and Lake Desire. Link to:
