Earthquake update:
King County coordinating damage assessment for public entities

The King County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) would like to remind all cities, special purpose districts and other public entities of the importance of rapidly assessing the monetary cost of damage from Wednesday's earthquake. Damage costs must be assessed and reported to King County OEM to start the FEMA financial reimbursement process.

King County OEM is responsible for coordinating the damage assessment for public entities in King County, so these damage assessments should be sent to King County OEM, care of Shad Burcham, at 206-296-3838 (fax), or shad.burcham@metrokc.gov. For more information, call 206-205-8106. King County OEM needs all damage assessments from public entities turned in by Thursday, March 8 at 12:00 noon to ensure reimbursement consideration.

King County contains 39 cities and approximately 126 special purpose districts and other public organizations. Examples of special purpose districts are school districts, fire districts, and water and sewer districts. Other public organizations include museums and public facility districts (public stadiums).

The Washington State Emergency Management Division will hold a briefing for all public entities submitting applications on March 13 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Carco Theater in Renton, 1717 Maple Valley Highway. Public entities should complete their damage assessments using the State Emergency Management Division's preliminary damage assessment worksheets.
