Dear King County employees,
It has been a week now since the magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck our region on Wednesday, February 28th at 10:55 a.m. Wow, what a week it has been!
With the resumption of court operations in the King County Courthouse, we are now 100% back in business. On Friday, March 2nd, structural engineers of record for King County deemed the Courthouse, Administration and Yesler Buildings safe for reentry. King County court judges sought a second opinion from a structural engineer regarding the safety of the Courthouse and were assured that safety of the structure had not been compromised by the earthquake. Following are links to two reports on the County's Web site provided by the Department of Construction and Facilities Management which you may be interested in:
I realize that many of you worked long hours during the days following the earthquake, and some of you worked over the weekend. The remarkable efforts you made allowed King County government to function effectively during a crisis situation and helped get us back in business quickly. My staff and I continue to receive notes from managers and employees alike commenting on the extraordinary efforts made by County employees to ensure their fellow workers, work areas, and the public we serve are safe. I am so very proud of you!!
Sincerely,
Ron Sims King County Executive P.S. We will continue to update King County's Web site at www.metrokc.gov with post-quake news.
