June 14, 2001
Dear King County Employees:
In my last letter, I informed you that we would be sending layoff notices out on June 15. Starting tomorrow, department managers will distribute the first round of layoff letters resulting from the reorganization and budget cuts in executive departments and offices. While most of the layoffs will not be effective until Dec. 31, 2001, I wanted to notify employees as early as possible so we would have the maximum amount of time to assist laid off employees in finding other positions in the County. This is a very difficult time for all of us as we go through these changes and reductions in force.
I have created a team to assist laid off employees find other County placements, as well as provide additional support and reemployment services. We will make every effort to place laid off employees in vacant positions in the County.
If you do receive a letter tomorrow, please take the time to look at the additional information provided about our benefits and the training opportunities and full scope of reemployment services that will become available in the coming months.
Even if you do not receive a letter, the upcoming layoffs will impact all employees in one way or another. It won't be business as usual for any of us. It's really important that we continue to support each other. I urge everyone to take advantage of all the services provided by the staff in Benefits and Well-Being, the Career Center and our Reemployment Committee. Also please check the Benefits and Well-Being web site that lists many of these resources
.
I will continue to keep you informed as we go through this process. Please know how much I value all of the hard work you all perform every day.
Sincerely,
