Sims seeks nominations of Earth Heroes in local schools

King County Executive Ron Sims is asking the citizens of King County to help him identify those who are doing exceptional work on behalf of the environment in our local schools. They may be teachers, students, staff, specific programs or entire schools.

"We know King County has numerous shining examples of creative and effective Earth Heroes in our schools. These are the people and programs who are working to maintain our environmental legacy in this county and they deserve to be honored," said Executive Sims.

This is the third annual King County Earth Heroes at Schools event. Last year Executive Sims recognized 19 outstanding teachers, students, staff, programs and schools doing wonderful work to protect the environment. They were nominated by colleagues and classmates who wanted to honor their on-going commitment to preserving the natural environment through educational efforts. Earth Heroes are the people in our midst who work tirelessly to protect our land, air and water resources.

Nomination forms are available on King County 's Earth Legacy Web site, at www.metrokc.gov/earthlegacy, or by calling Linda Howard, at 206-296-4432. Nominations will be accepted until March 21, 2003. Award winners will be acknowledged at an Earth Heroes at School Award Ceremony in May 2003.

The Earth Heroes at School Program is part of a countywide Earth Legacy Initiative, which consists of a number of programs that protect and enhance King County's environment. Many of the exceptional people and outstanding projects in our schools that are really making a difference can be models for similar projects in other schools, classrooms and communities.
