2004 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. calendars are here and gorgeous!!! Calendars are currently available in Room 260 of the Yesler Building and from Yolanda Geyen in Transit in the King Street Center. If you have a suggestion for a distribution point in other King County locations downtown, please contact Llonia Patterson, at 206-296-0625. Calendars will be distributed to locations outside King County during the week of Dec. 8! They will also be available at the MLK Celebration on Jan. 15, 2004 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Paramount Theater. Human Rights Day Celebration Dec. 10, 2003 is Human Rights Day. Author and activist Sherman Alexie is the featured guest at the eighth annual celebration of Seattle Human Rights Day on Wednesday, Dec. 10, noon-1:30 p.m. in the Dome Room of the Arctic Building, corner of Third Avenue and Cherry in downtown Seattle. The 2003 recipients of the Distinguished Citizens for Human Rights Award also will be announced at the event. Seattle Human Rights Day is sponsored by King County Civil Rights Commission, Seattle Office for Civil Rights, Seattle Human Rights Commission, WA State Human Rights Commission, and the Seattle Chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA. The event commemorates the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted Dec. 10, 1948. More information is available online. Training and Organization Development has now posted its 2004 schedule of individual development and management classes. View the new schedule and begin planning your 2004 training. New recycling services for confidential papers available Effective immediately, on-site paper shredding services are offered by King County's recycling vendor (Seadrunar). This service is specifically designed to efficiently shred and dispose of confidential papers. A nominal fee of $25 to $30 (per tote) will be charged for scheduled weekly or bi-weekly pick-up. Each department will be billed directly for this service. Each secure (lockable) tote (65-gallon) holds approximately 200 lbs. of paper. King County Home Ownership Program Thinking about buying or selling a home? King County's Home Ownership Program offers special benefits to King County employees, such as reduced closing costs and home inspection fees, lower escrow services, 24-hour loan approval information and much, much more.
