Sims, Nickels urge talks to continue in Darigold lockout
Jointly released by King County Executive Ron Sims and City of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels
King County Executive Ron Sims and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels today urged both sides in the Darigold lockout to go back to the table and resolve issues that have resulted in 200 employees being locked out during the holidays.
“Locking out 200 long term dedicated employees in Seattle and Issaquah who have provided us all with quality milk and milk products to schools, stores and other businesses in our region for more than 60 years creates a hardship for them and their families,” said Sims. He added that workers and their families are not receiving health care benefits during this flu season.
The employees have been locked out of Darigold since August 31 of this year. Boycott activities in the Seattle area are now spreading throughout the state.
“I appeal to you today to bring justice to our community by ending this lockout, returning Darigold workers to their jobs and reaching a fair agreement with the workers,” said Nickels.
Mark Jones, secretary/treasurer of Teamsters Local 66, who represents the 200 Darigold workers, joined Sims and Nickels at the Teamsters Hall where hundreds of members and their families gathered.
“We want to find a solution with Darigold so that we can go back to work and continue providing quality products for the holidays,” said Jones.
A crowd of workers and their families joined Sims, Nickels and Jones in the call for getting back to the bargaining table before the holidays, so they can get back to work.
