Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Recognition

WHEREAS, alcohol and other drug addiction impacts individuals, families and businesses and creates millions of dollars in costs related to lost productivity, absenteeism, employee turnover, illness, medical care, crime, and death; and

WHEREAS, the treatment of alcohol and other drug addiction is a proven and effective means to return people to healthy and productive lives; and

WHEREAS, King County joins many employers in our community in providing an employee assistance program to assist employees to obtain necessary alcohol or other drug addiction treatment; and

WHEREAS, employers who provide assistance programs make an investment that pays off in benefits for companies large and small, as well as providing hope for their workers, their families and their communities; and

WHEREAS, across King County dedicated professionals are working every day to provide the support, counseling, encouragement and treatment needed to help individuals along the path to recovery; and

WHEREAS, people in recovery contribute daily to their families, their workplaces and their communities and share their strength and messages of hope and survival with others who struggle with chemical addiction;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Sims, King County Executive, do hereby recognize September, 2004 to be

Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

in King County. I encourage all residents and businesses to join me in raising awareness that substance abuse treatment is effective and that recovery reclaims lives and futures.
