Sims thanks County Council for adopting county planning policies
King County Executive Ron Sims today thanked the members of the County Council for adopting the comprehensive planning policies he proposed earlier this year as an outstanding blueprint for the county’s future.
“This update continues our efforts to balance urban growth and rural traditions,” said Sims. “The measures as adopted allow rural residents to continue the quality of life they cherish while making sure the urban areas can continue to grow and remain vibrant.”
The proposed ordinances outline new strategies for protecting environmental quality in both urban and rural settings, and allow farm-friendly changes in the rural area to keep the rural areas thriving.
Sims added that this legislation is also an important tool for protecting the rural areas and natural environment against sprawling development and damaging land use policies.
“We went out and heard from hundreds of county residents, and the council has heard from dozens more during their considerations,” Sims said. “These measures reflect the public’s input. I commend County Councilman Dow Constantine, Growth Management Chair, for his leadership in ensuring adoption of these critical measures.”
“Our county would look quite different today if we had not had growth management in place for the last 10 years,” said Sims. “With these measures, growth will stay where it can be accommodating - in urban areas, and our resource and rural lands will be protected into the future. This is a vitally important legacy we are leaving for generations to come.”
