Sims thanks County Councilmembers for support of critical environmental protections

King County Executive Ron Sims today thanked County Councilmembers for adopting critical protections that will protect the region’s most critical areas and will leave a legacy of environmental safeguards for future generations.

“The rural character of King County depends upon protection of our natural systems and our science based efforts will ensure healthy forests, clean air and water,” said Sims.

The Executive noted in particular Councilmembers Dow Constantine, chair of the Growth Management & Unincorporated Areas Committee and County Council Chair Larry Phillips for their leadership on the council in ensuring the critical areas ordinance measures were adopted.

“We have done so much in the last several years of growth management to start on the path to improvement that we must continue to be vigilant in ensuring ongoing protections to the environment.

“When I released the Annual Growth Report and the Benchmark Indicators last week, we acknowledged how much we had done for the environment, but that we had so much more to do.

“The County Council’s actions yesterday reaffirmed that commitment to the environment now and in the future, guaranteeing a healthy environment, economy, and communities.”
