Recognition

WHEREAS, mental health disorders and mental health problems affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and at all stages of life; and

WHEREAS, mental health and physical health go hand in hand and the caring for our mind and body is good for our overall health and key to success at home, at work and at school; and

WHEREAS, mental health problems are real and common and with treatment people with mental illnesses can recover and lead full productive lives; and

WHEREAS, early diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems can greatly help children reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, King County's mental health providers and advocate partners are working to dispel the fears, myths and misunderstandings commonly associated with mental illness and increase access to treatment and support services; and

WHEREAS, the National Mental Health Association, the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare and their national partners observe Mental Health Month each May to raise awareness and understanding of mental illness;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Sims, King County Executive, do hereby recognize the month of May 2005 as

Mental Health Month

in King County. I encourage all residents to join me in increasing awareness and understanding of mental health and the treatment options available in our community for adults and children with mental illnesses.
