Leaders from some of the region’s most prominent businesses and foundations, local governments, communities of faith, social services and homeless advocacy groups will release a 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness at a press briefing on Monday. Speakers will also announce the makeup of the policy and administrative oversight committees that will guide the implementation of the region’s "Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness in King County," a major collaborative effort approved by the Committee to End Homelessness in March.
The co-chairs of the governing board, King County Executive Ron Sims and Car Toys Chief Executive Officer Dan Brettler, will join key members of the community in unveiling the new governance structure for the Committee to End Homelessness and in announcing the full membership of the Governing Board and Interagency Council.
"The 10-year clock begins ticking now," Sims said of the plan’s release. "After years of preparation, on Monday we are launching a new proactive approach to the issue of homelessness that will actually begin reducing the scope of the problem, rather than simply reacting to it as we have in the past."
The news conference will take place:
Monday, July 11, 2005
1:30 p.m.
The Lyon Building, Community Meeting Room (1st Floor)
607 3rd Avenue, Seattle
Joining Sims and Brettler at the news conference will be Seattle City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen; United Way President Jon Fine; Doreen Marchione, Executive Director, Hopelink; and other members of the two bodies who will discuss why they, and their organizations, have chosen to participate in this effort.
Copies of the Ten-Year Plan and rosters for each of the committees will be made available at the news conference.
