Evacuation in two neighborhoods as water tops Reif Road levee near North Bend
Emergency officials have issued an evacuation notice through the emergency alert system for residents in the neighborhoods of Berry Estates on 123rd Street and Shamrock Park on 125th Street in unincorporated King County near North Bend due to more than two feet of flood waters topping the Reif Road levee. The levee is on the south fork of the Snoqualmie River where waters continue to rise at this hour.
There are reports of multiple levee failures in North Bend. The Snoqualmie and Tolt rivers and Issaquah Creek are all at Phase IV flood alert level, indicating significant flooding is occurring within those watersheds.
The evacuations come less than three hours after King County Executive Ron Sims issued an emergency proclamation due to widespread flooding in King County and a forecast for record flooding in the region. The proclamation waives normal contracting procedures and budgetary limits to allow county departments to respond even more quickly to save lives and protect property.
North Bend officials are providing a shelter for evacuees at Opstad Elementary School at 1345 Stillson Ave SE in North Bend. Residents are asked not to return to their homes until given an all clear by emergency officials.
The King County Flood Warning Center continues to monitor river flows throughout the county and provide updates to emergency officials.
