Update: collaboration, damage assessment, and storm recovery
Sims and Gregoire tour county
Praise collaboration and assess damage across the county
King County Executive Ron Sims and Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire toured King County today to meet with affected residents, thank work crews, and survey wind damage in the hardest hit parts of the county.
Sims and Gregoire visited a Red Cross shelter at North Bellevue Community Center to talk to shelter residents and volunteers to gain a first hand sense of how the community was pulling together in response to last week’s wind storm. The leaders also toured the area around Woodinville/Duvall Road, thanking work crews from King County Roads Division, Puget Sound Energy, and other out of state crews who have been working non-stop to repair services to county residents.
“I want to praise the collaborative spirit shown by King County, the state, the private sector, and the impacted communities,” said Executive Sims. “Everyone has come together, to pitch in, shoulder to shoulder, in response to one of the most devastating storms our region has ever seen.”
As of Thursday afternoon, approximately 57,000 PSE customers in King County were still without power. About 4,900 Seattle City Light customers remained without electrical service.
There remain 19 road closures around King County. For current road closures, visit http://www.metrokc.gov/kcdot/roads/roadalert/.
Property Damage
To report damage estimates to homes and businesses due to the wind storm, residents and business owners should call the King County Damage Hotline at 800-523-5044. (**Note: This is not the phone number to report a power outage. For PSE power outages call 888-225-5773.) King County will continue taking damage reports from impacted residents and businesses through Friday, December 22nd, 5 p.m. King County is collecting the information to provide the State of Washington figures for any future Presidential Disaster Declaration, which could qualify the area for federal funds.
Over the past four days, the King County Disaster Hotline has logged 418 calls from residents reporting damage to their homes or businesses. Damage estimates to date total $10.2 million in structural damage and $1.78 million in personal property damage.
