Statement by King County Executive Ron Sims on County Council approval of parks ballot measures
"These proposals will be put before voters as a result of long hours of analysis from a citizen task force and parks staff. I would like to thank them--especially the task force co-chairs, Gene Duvernoy and Ron Sher.
"Renewing the parks levy will allow the division to continue the remarkable work now being done under its business plan, including generating millions in new funding through entrepreneurial ventures. It will also allow an increase in maintenance of existing parks and facilities. The second levy will allow us to purchase fast-disappearing open space and provide money for improvements at Woodland Park Zoo.
"I thank the council for putting these important quality of life measures up for a vote."
