Media advisory: Starbucks Ultimate Park Makeover of White Center Heights Park about to begin
The half million dollar Starbucks Ultimate Park Makeover of White Center Heights Park kicks off next week when hundreds of volunteers take up shovels and hammers for a seven day transformation of the undeveloped park. Hundreds of Starbucks employees will work side by side with hundreds of community volunteers.
Volunteers and King County Parks workers will gather at 8:30 a.m., Friday, June 8 to begin the makeover behind a draped fence. One week later, Friday, June 15, the new park will be unveiled for everyone to see and enjoy.
The White Center Heights Park makeover is part of a renaissance in the unincorporated part of King County where a large immigrant community representing 80 nationalities lives and works. The White Center Heights elementary school, the Southwest Boys and Girls Club, and the new Greenbridge residential community are near the park that should become centerpiece of White Center.
The King County Executive Ron Sims today transmitted the legislation that officially accepts Starbucks’ generous gift to King County Parks. This gift is part of the Parks Departments entrepreneurial efforts to fund parks services through partnerships and other innovative approaches.
People who want to volunteer should contact 206-296-4452 or laurie.clinton@metrokc.gov.
