Death of inmate in custody
An inmate in custody of the King County jail system died this morning, Friday, August 10, at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) at 4:44 a.m. The person, an adult male, was booked into King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) on July 26, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. and was immediately transferred to HMC. The inmate was returned to KCCF on August 2 at approximately 3:55 p.m. and due to ongoing medical concerns was returned to HMC at approximately 8:30 p.m. that same day. He remained at Harborview until his death.
Due to federal privacy laws, information about the inmate’s medical condition cannot be released. The King County Medical Examiner’s will release cause and manner of death, as well as identity of the individual as part of its standard protocol. State law requires that the King County Medical Examiner conduct an autopsy on all in-custody deaths.
As part of the standard review process, the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will be working with Public Health - Seattle & King County to review applicable protocols relating to this death.
