Sims recommends confirmation of Theresa Jennings as King County Natural Resources and Parks Director
King County Executive Ron Sims today recommended County Council approval and confirmation of Theresa Jennings as director of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP).
Jennings, who began her King County Career in solid waste in 1989 as a management analyst, has served as acting DNRP director since the June retirement of former director Pam Bissonnette in August.
"Theresa Jennings brings a proven public service track record to this position, and she has performed exceptionally well since her appointment as interim director," said County Executive Ron Sims. "I am confident that the King County Council will make the right decision and swiftly confirm this appointment."
Jennings served as director of the Solid Waste Division for four years, managing a diverse work force of more than 400 employees, from financial and policy analysts to welders and truck drivers. Under her leadership, the division has implemented a number of innovative programs to better serve its customers and protect the environment.
Jennings also served as the assistant director of utilities for the City of Norfolk, Virginia's Department of Utilities, property services manager for the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District, and energy manager for the King County Department of Natural Resources. She has undergraduate and master's degrees in public administration.
"The Department of Natural Resources and Parks plays an essential role in safeguarding the environment, ensuring public safety and preserving our quality of life," Sims said. "With Theresa Jennings at the helm, I'm confident that the department will continue to excel in its mission."
Sims' motion on Jennings' confirmation has been sent to the County Council for review and approval.
