Theresa Jennings confirmed as Director of Department of Natural Resources and Parks

King County Executive Ron Sims today lauded the County Council's unanimous vote to confirm Theresa Jennings as Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP).

"The work of DNRP plays a key role in managing my initiatives on global warming, open space and trails, and rural service delivery," said County Executive Ron Sims. "Under Theresa's leadership, I am confident the department to will continue to excel in its mission to safeguard the environment, ensure public safety and preserve our quality of life."

"Theresa Jennings will be an excellent Natural Resources and Parks director," said Councilmember Larry Phillips, sponsor of Ms. Jennings' confirmation. "As chair of the Growth Management and Natural Resources Committee, I have had many occasions to work with Theresa, and I have admired her work in the Solid Waste Division. I look forward to continuing work with her in stewarding King County's precious natural resources and parks."

Jennings served as director of the Solid Waste Division for four years, managing a diverse work force of more than 400 employees, from financial and policy analysts to welders and truck drivers. Under her leadership, the division has implemented a number of innovative programs to better serve its customers and protect the environment.

Jennings has also served as the assistant director of utilities for the City of Norfolk, Virginia's Department of Utilities, property services manager for the Washington State Major League Baseball Stadium Public Facilities District, and energy manager for the King County Department of Natural Resources.
