King County Executive Ron Sims
Dear Friends,

King County is proud to celebrate National Women's History Month. This year's theme, "Women Inspiring Hope and Possibility," celebrates the hope and sense of possibility that comes to our lives from the inspirational work of women. Hope comes in many forms from laws challenged and changed, new medical research, stories of compassion and courage, and watching women stand tall against great odds. The eight 2005 Honorees (external link) represent this vision of hope in myriad ways.

I encourage all King County residents to participate in ceremonies and events to commemorate and honor women for their countless contributions to our community and nation and to learn more about the significant role women have had in the creation of our history.

Throughout King County's history, women have played a prominent role in building our community. But that history is not always told, and the names are too often forgotten.

I encourage you to explore our Women's History web site and learn more about the women whose lives helped shape the people and place we are today.
