For Everyone: State Retirement

Full-time regular employees and full-time Local 587 employees participate in the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems' Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and receive retirement plan information and enrollment forms during orientation. If you're new to the retirement system, you must decide whether to enroll in PERS Plan 2 or Plan 3 within 90 days following your hire date or you'll automatically be enrolled in Plan 3.

If you're a part-time Local 587 employee, you receive PERS information and forms from Benefits and Retirement Operations after you have worked at least 70 hours in five different months during a 12-month period.

If you're a deputy sheriff, you participate in the state's Law Enforcement Officers' and Fire Fighters' (LEOFF) system and receive LEOFF information and enrollment forms from the Sheriff's Office Personnel Unit.
