Why install the JP2 ArcView extension?

You must have the JP2 extension installed if you want to view imagery files in ArcView that have been compressed with the JP2 process.

Note: If you are unfamiliar in installing ArcView extensions or accessing ArcView through a network installation, please contact a member of your GIS or LAN staff.

Copy the file to your hard drive

1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to
    \\Gisdw\kclib\Resources\Extensions\ArcView3x
(internal users only; external users should substitute your own path)

2. Select and copy this file:
      GeoJP2ArcViewExt.zip

3. Navigate to your ArcView Extensions folder:
      C:\ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32

4. Right click in the right window pane and create a New Folder (NEW>FOLDER). Don’t worry about naming the folder, this is only a temporary location you will delete later.

5. Double click to open the folder, and Paste the zip file into the New Folder.

Install the extension

1. Double click on the zip file and WinZip (or some other extraction software) should start immediately.

2. Click on Extract, in the top menu, and the extract dialog should open.

3. Finally, click on the Extract Button and the zip file will create the files within your New Folder in a subdirectory called jp2ext.

JP@ Extention Extract

This directory should contain six files. The two html documents are metadata documents about the extension. The msi.ico file can be ignored. The readmearcview.txt file is an abbreviated version of these instructions.

Move files and clean up

1. Using Windows Explorer, drag and drop the file msigjp2.dll to the AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\BIN32 folder.

2. Using Windows Explorer, drag and drop the file msigjp2.avx to your AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32 folder

3. After moving these files two their proper locations, carefully select the New Folder icon and delete the New Folder.
