Abstract:

Olibque and vertical imagery for western King County accessible via Pictometry ArcGIS 9.2 extension and/or Pictometry Electronic Field Study (EFS) software. In addition to vertical view, four-direction Neighborhood-level views are available in western King County and southwestern Snohomish County, at a nominal 0.5-foot resolution. In eastern King County, in addition to the vertical view, two-direction (N-S) Community-level views are available. Imagery is nominally 1-foot GSD in eastern King .

The OrthoSector (Sector) tiles are created from the underlying vertical (ortho) components. Do not use these dates as an indicator of the image acquisition

Data provided by Pictometry was copied from Network Attached Storage devices (NAS) to locations on the King County network. Due to size, the Vertical (WAKING07-093-LIB) and Oblique Imagery (WAKING07-093-LIB-ORTHOS) was placed on one server (GISPROD) and the sector tile library (WAKING07-Tiles) was placed on another server (GISDW).

After setup and testing of the software and data, it was determined that the sector tiles provided in TIFF format by Pictometry (at approximately 83 MB per tile) were too large to perform optimally in their EFS software. (Generally sector tiles are not used in the ArcGIS ArcMAP Pictometry Toolbar as orthos are displayed in the main ArcMap window and oblique views are displayed in the adjunct Pictometry window.) The sector TIFF tiles were resampled to 2-foot resolution using the GP.resample tool. Then the resampled TIFFS were compressed losslessly using MrSid v7. Pictometrys EFS software was used to rebuilt the PMI files for each sid. The three file set (sid, sdw, pmi) were replaced to the Sector Tiles folder. The EFS application was tested against the updated data and performed more efficiently while still providing sufficient resolution at the scale the sector tiles are used.
