Vulnerable Populations Action Team (VPAT)
Request for Proposal (RFP)

February 19, 2008

Dear Community Partner,

This is an invitation for community – based organizations in King County to apply for emergency preparedness grants that will fund efforts to help your organization be better prepared to provide during disasters. Applying is easy!

The Vulnerable Populations Action Team (VPAT) and United Way of King County are pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for community based organizations serving vulnerable residents in King County. We are offering small awards, up to $2,499 to community – based organizations to assist in their disaster planning, response and recovery efforts.

The project deliverables include:

a) Attendance at two emergency preparedness trainings;

b) Developing an Agency Emergency Plan;

c) Creating an Agency Call Down list; and

d) Up to $550 toward the purchase of emergency supplies.

For those agencies who apply to create or build upon an Agency Emergency Plans, two staff members are required to attend both VPAT trainings. Agency representatives sent to the trainings must play a key role and/or have influence in emergency planning efforts for their organization.

Please read the enclosed Emergency Preparedness Capacity Building Project description, and consider submitting a proposal to fund your planning activities. The project deliverables are meant to generate ideas and help focus your thinking around preparedness.

If you questions about the deliverables, the application process, or general preparedness questions please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me at 206.263.8798, pj.redmond@kingcounty.gov

Note: agencies who’ve partnered with VPAT on prior capacity building grants are not eligible to participate in this round of funding. Please feel free to forward this announcement to anyone you think might be interested.

I hope to see your proposal soon.
